“This is the first time I’ve really understood what a TCM doctor is saying,” recently shared foreign blogger “Carlo Wu (Carlo)” on social media. This time, he donned the Qwen AI clip-on earphones—one for himself and one for the doctor—to aid their conversation through real-time face-to-face translation.
In his video, Carlo noted that he finds traditional medicine fascinating, yet language has always posed a barrier. At the start of the consultation, when the doctor asked where he felt unwell, he gestured while saying, “Everything hurts.” Once he put on the earphones, the two began discussing his condition in greater detail.
The doctor took his pulse and provided explanations, while Carlo followed up with questions: “Are these conclusions drawn from observing your tongue and taking your pulse? Do you also recommend acupuncture?” During the exchange, he also mentioned that, in his previous understanding, massage was mainly for relaxation, whereas the TCM tuina technique he experienced seemed quite different. The doctor then offered further clarification.
Even after the consultation ended, Carlo’s questions didn’t stop. He asked Qwen what “excess dampness” means and voiced a practical daily need: to remind him to stand up and move after prolonged sitting.
Reflecting on this experience, he said that in the past, listening to doctors often required him to rely on guesswork to fill in gaps; this time, with the help of translation, he could better understand what was being said. In the comments section, he shared his impressions: “The most useful thing is not having to constantly switch back and forth”—“Just listen and translate directly, and the whole conversation flows much more smoothly.”
According to reports, the Qwen AI clip-on earphones support professional translation across 89 languages and multi-language AI-powered real-time transcription and note-taking. They are now available for purchase on multiple e-commerce platforms. Meanwhile, the concurrently launched Qwen AI glasses N1Pro have topped Tmall’s smart glasses best-seller list.
