Meta announced it may once again delay the implementation of its controversial new terms of service, stating in its latest position that the rollout could be postponed until after November 20, 2026. This move follows strong backlash from numerous publishers regarding provisions in the terms related to AI training permissions.
These terms were originally scheduled to take effect on October 30, 2026. Initially, the text was interpreted as allowing Meta to use content from news websites accessed via Facebook and Instagram to train its AI models. Subsequently, Meta revised its policy, removing explicit language that permitted “training” on scraped content.
Andy Stone, Meta’s Global Head of Communications, posted on X that the company “will not implement policy changes without conducting comprehensive consultations with industry organizations and leaders.” At present, no new implementation date has been announced, and all adjustments remain contingent upon completing these consultations.
