For more than 20 years, we’ve invested in machine learning and AI research, tools, and infrastructure to build products that make everyday life better for more people. Teams across Google are working on ways to unlock AI’s benefits in fields as wide-ranging as healthcare, crisis response, and education. To keep you posted on our progress, we're doing a regular roundup of Google's most recent AI news.

Here’s a look back at some of our AI announcements from October.

October underscored our commitment to AI innovation, as we released one frontier model globally and announced our next one just two weeks later. After rolling out Gemini 4 Argon — a frontier reasoning model — to developers, enterprises, scientists, and consumers, we announced Gemini 4 Carbon, our strongest model yet for long-horizon engineering and cybersecurity defense. Carbon illustrates the pace at which we’re pushing the frontier forward while strengthening our safety guardrails in tandem. Elsewhere in October, we introduced Genie 4 for real-time interactive world simulation with native audio, unveiled our smartest fitness tracker with Google Fitbit Edge, broke open a 20-year bottleneck in quantum computing, and more.

Put Gemini 4 Argon to work today, and see what’s next for Gemini 4 at the frontier. Following early safety testing, Gemini 4 Argon rolled out globally for complex coding, financial analysis, and legal workflows across Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, Google Cloud, Search, and the Gemini app, while also powering physical-world reasoning through Gemini 4 Argon for Robotics. Showing how quickly we’re pushing the frontier forward, two weeks later we announced Gemini 4 Carbon, our strongest model yet with state-of-the-art cybersecurity and long-horizon capabilities. Just as we did with Argon, we’re taking a deliberate approach to rollout: Carbon is now in pre-release testing with the U.S. government and a subset of trusted cyber defenders via the Fairwind Program as we refine safety guardrails and expand partner testing ahead of a broader launch to developers, businesses, and consumers.

Step into real-time interactive worlds with Genie 4. Genie 4 brings unprecedented realism, advanced physics, lifelike human movement, and native audio to real-time interactive simulation. You can steer scenes as they unfold using natural language. Genie 4 advances on our ability to create safe training environments for robots and AI agents as a crucial step toward AGI. Verify AI-generated content more easily around the world. Having already watermarked more than 180 billion images and videos and 240,000 years of audio with SynthID, we’re expanding SynthID Detector globally in English so anyone can check whether an image, video, or audio clip was generated with AI. Alongside built-in verification tools in Search, Chrome, and the Gemini app that regularly handle over a million requests each day, SynthID Detector also identifies AI content from industry partners like OpenAI, NVIDIA, Kakao, and Apple.

Stay protected from mobile scams with new Android safeguards. AI-powered Scam Detection in Phone by Google and Google Messages already flags more than 5 million suspected scam calls and texts every month. Now, Android is introducing an opt-in Enhanced protection mode in Google Messages that uses Private AI Compute and our latest cloud Gemini models to catch sophisticated conversational scams, paired with expanded chat alerts and stronger call-forwarding and screen-sharing defenses.

See how AI could improve patient-physician relationships in clinical care. In Google’s first publication in the main journal of The Lancet, researchers from Google and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center evaluated our AMIE conversational medical AI system during real-world primary care clinic visits. By gathering patient histories and generating clinical summaries before urgent care appointments, AMIE helped clinicians prepare in 75% of cases and matched doctors’ final differential diagnoses 90% of the time. This is part of our broader work applying AI to better understand, detect, and treat disease.

Create and play custom games in Playground. Our new experimental gaming platform lets anyone build, remix, and share custom single- and multiplayer games from simple text prompts with zero coding required. That same no-code creativity is expanding across our platforms: Android users can now build personal AI apps with Google AI Studio and install them directly on their phones through Google Play, and music producers can vibe code custom instruments and audio plugins in Google Flow Music.

Celebrate educators and sharpen your learning. For World Teachers’ Day, teachers from around the globe shared how they use Gemini to personalize lessons and spark critical thinking, alongside a new global idea search launched in partnership with TED. Whether you’re in the classroom or preparing for a big project, you can also study smarter with Gemini Notebook using interactive learning overviews and custom quizzes, and use new co-creation controls to shape your Slide Decks and Video Overviews before they generate.

Build privacy-first multimodal search with EmbeddingGemma 2. Engineered on the Gemma 4 architecture with 740 million parameters, our new open embedding model moves beyond text to map code, images, video, and audio into a single unified space right on everyday devices. Its modular design cuts local vector storage by up to 6x, making it easy for developers to build private, offline apps that can find a specific video clip from a voice memo or search hours of audio with a text query.

Read the first AI response beamed back from our Project Suncatcher satellite. After launching TPUs into low-Earth orbit, our first Project Suncatcher prototype satellite returned the first-ever AI response generated by a data center-class Google TPU in space: a haiku composed onboard by Gemma 4. This milestone confirms our hardware survived launch and can run AI workloads in orbit. Our team will continue to test how the chips handle radiation and thermal extremes while harnessing space’s abundant solar energy as part of a long-term moonshot toward scalable orbital AI infrastructure.

See how our latest research is accelerating scientific discovery. At our annual Research@ 2026 event, we shared new ways we’re putting advanced AI in the hands of scientists and experts — including demonstrating an experimental Geospatial Reasoning agent, opening public access to our Deep Review tool for technical papers, and delivering top-ranked flu hospitalization forecasting. These breakthroughs are part of a broader, company-wide effort to push the boundaries of scientific discovery. Beyond the event, Google teams are also advancing planetary research by mapping the world’s forest types, while Google.org has awarded $36 million to 17 organizations accelerating scientific breakthroughs with AI.

See how we broke open a 20-year bottleneck in quantum computing. In a landmark study published in Science, Google Quantum AI demonstrated that a technique called "magic state cultivation" works in practice on our Willow quantum processor, cutting errors roughly 40-fold compared to uncultivated states. Because producing high-purity magic states previously threatened to consume up to 95% of a quantum computer’s resources, this breakthrough clears a major hurdle on the path to large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computers.
