How To Get Started With the Model The XLM model was proposed in Cross-lingual Language Model Pretraining by Guillaume Lample and Alexis Conneau. It’s a transformer pretrained with either a causal language modeling (CLM) objective (next token prediction), a masked language modeling (MLM) objective (BERT-like), or a Translation Language Modeling (TLM) object (extension of BERT’s MLM to multiple language inputs). This model is trained with a masked language modeling objective on English text. To learn more about this task and potential downstream uses, see the Hugging Face fill mask docs and the Hugging Face Multilingual Models for Inference docs. Also see the associated paper.

Limitations & considerations
Sources are insufficient to establish specific limitations. Verify task performance, latency, data policies, licensing and version lifecycle.
Source prices & cost analysis
Prices vary by channel, region and configuration. Channel quotes are listed independently and are not treated as a single official provider price.

Estimate monthly base token costs
Estimates exclude cache discounts, tiered pricing, multimodal surcharges, web search, taxes and additional reasoning output.

Do open weights permit free commercial use?
Not necessarily. Check the version license, commercial conditions and usage policies. Self-hosting incurs compute and maintenance costs.
Are these real-time billing prices?
These are timestamped source snapshots, not live billing prices. Check the channel for current versions, regions, discounts and billing methods.
